We are offering First Aid and Food Safety courses throughout August 2017 at our premises in Sunderland, for less than half price to celebrate HSF Training's 20th Birthday!

Since September 2014, the Department of Education’s Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (0-5 years) requires that “at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current paediatric first aid certificate. Paediatric first aid training18 must be relevant for workers caring for young children and where relevant, babies.”

This course provides first aid skills for dealing with emergency situations involving babies (0-12 months) and children (1-onset of puberty) and meets the standards set in the Framework (0-5 years). It is also ideal for anyone wishing to gain the confidence to manage first aid emergencies involving young children, such as parents.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Maintain factual records relating to first aid provision
  • Explain the importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Explain the use of first aid equipment provided in the workplace, including the first aid box
  • Outline the role of first aiders in emergency procedures
  • Explain the importance of action planning
  • Conduct primary & secondary assessments
  • Place a child into the recovery position
  • Successfully demonstrate infant and child CPR
  • Administer first aid to a child with head injuries
  • Administer first aid to a child with bleeding, shock and burns
  • Administer first aid to a child with sprains, strains and fractures
  • Administer first aid to a child with poisoning, bites and stings
  • Administer first aid to a child with eye, nose and ear obstructions
  • Recognise common childhood conditions
  • Administer first aid to a child with asthma, diabetes and seizures
  • Administer first aid to a child with allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock.

This is held periodically throughout the  year in one of our comfortable training rooms in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, close to Durham and Newcastle and easily accessible from all areas of North East England. Alternatively, if you have several people requiring the training, we can deliver this as an in-house course at your premises at times and on dates to suit you. (Please note that the maximum number of students which can be accommodated on this course is 12.)

This Emergency First Aid at Work course is an excellent introduction to First Aid techniques. The Emergency First Aid at Work training course is ideal for those who have been identified as requiring a basic level of first aid knowledge by their employer’s first aid needs assessment, or for anyone with an interest in learning basic life saving skills.

This is an informative course set in a relaxed and positive atmosphere, encouraging delegate participation in practical exercises simulating emergency situations. It can be delivered at your premises, or at one of our training rooms in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, North East England, close to Durham or Newcastle, or at our training venue at Billingham. Please note that a maximum of 12 delegates can be accommodated on this course.

By the end of the course delegates will be confident in being able to:

  • Identify the aims of first aid
  • Manage a first aid emergency situation
  • Give Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Control severe blood loss
  • Manage an unconscious casualty
  • Recognise the symptoms of a number of life threatening and non-life threatening conditions associated with most workplaces.

Successful delegates will be issued with a HSF Training Ltd Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for 3 years from the date the training took place.

We do also offer this course as a Level 2 awarding body accredited qualification. The syllabus is the same but successful delegates will receive a Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work certificate from the awarding body. IOSH Managing Safely

This course, designed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), is aimed at  individuals with management or supervisory responsibilities with regards to health & safety within their workplace. The course is designed to provide them with the ability to manage safely and effectively in compliance with both their organisation’s policy and best practice in health and safety.

The course is divided into the following modules:

  • Module 1: Introducing managing safely
  • Module 2: Assessing risks
  • Module 3: Controlling risks
  • Module 4: Understanding your responsibilities
  • Module 5: Identifying hazards
  • Module 6: Investigating accidents and incidents
  • Module 7: Measuring performance
  • Module 8: Protecting our environment

Delivery is usually over 4 days and we offer this both regularly through the day at our training premises in Sunderland, North East, or can be delivered in-house, at your premises, at times and on dates to suit your requirements.

The course is assessed by means of a short written examination and completion of a workplace risk based assignment. Delegates who successfully complete the assessments will be issued a Managing Safely certificate by IOSH.

First Aid at Work Certificate

First aid training provides individuals with skills that can save lives and promote recovery in a casualty. This 3 day course providing in-depth coverage of possible workplace accidents and illnesses and their treatment. The mix of theory and practical based learning helps increase understanding and knowledge of first aid procedures.

The course is suitable for those designated as first aiders in their workplace and who have been identified as needing in-depth training by their employer’s first aid needs assessment. It is also ideal for anyone who would like to learn how to assist casualties outside of the workplace.

This course is delivered at our training rooms in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, North East England and can also be delivered as in-house training.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Maintain factual records relating to first aid provision
  • Explain the importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Explain the use of first aid equipment provided in the workplace
  • Outline the role of first aiders in emergency procedures
  • Assess the situation and act safely, effectively and promptly in the event of an emergency
  • Administer effective CPR ( cardiopulmonary resuscitation )
  • Administer first aid to an unconscious casualty
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded & bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with burns & scalds
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints including spinal injuries

  • All course materials, including a First Aid at Work text book
  • HSF Training Ltd certificate for successful delegates, valid for 3 years.
  • Lunch and refreshments provided on open courses.

We do also offer this course as a Level 3 awarding body accredited qualification. The syllabus is the same but successful  delegates will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAAW) certificate from the awarding body. Please contact us regarding costs for this training option.

First Aid at Work Revalidation

The First Aid at Work Revalidation course ensures First Aid At Work certificates are renewed and maintained.

This course is delivered at our training rooms in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, North East or at our client’s own site. Please call us for a quote for in-house training.

This course can be taken up to 3 months before the expiry date of a current First Aid at Work certificate, or up to 28 days after the certificate expiry date.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Outline the role of first aiders in emergency procedures
