This course is for first aiders who hold a current First Aid at Work certificate. They attend a two day First Aid Revalidation course to renew their certificate.

The current guidance regarding certificate renewals is below.

First Aid at Work qualification is still in date

This  can be renewed by attending the two day First Aid at Work Revalidation (Requalification) course.

First Aid at Work qualification is expired for no longer than 3 months

An employer may decide to have a first aider attend a 2 day First Aid at Work Revalidation (Requalification) course, however the Health and Safety Executive do state that “it may be prudent to complete the 3 day First Aid at Work course, especially where a considerable period – ie in excess of one month – has elapsed since the First Aid at Work certificate expired.” (First aid at work The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 Guidance on Regulations, L74 third edition) It is for the employer to decide on what would be the most appropriate, considering factors such as annual refresher training, CPD & any other activities that may contribute to a learner maintaining their skills & knowledge.

First Aid at Work qualification is expired by more than 3 months

The 3 day First Aid at Work qualification should be completed.

Please note that where the qualification is expired, the Health and Safety Executive do not consider the first aider to be competent to act as a first aider in the workplace.
